What is Californium?

Let us tell you that Californium is prepared in the lab. All isotopes of Californium are radioactive. It is used as a neutron startup source in nuclear power plants. Apart from this, it is also used in the treatment of diseases like cancer. Californium is also used in nuclear reactors and coal power. The price of just 1 gram of Californium is said to be Rs 17 crore. The price of Californium is 20 lakh times more than silver, 24 thousand times more than gold and 40 times more than diamond. It is so precious that neither is it visible anywhere nor do many people know about it. It is made with full precaution under the supervision of big scientists in high security. Only a few grams of Californium can be made in a lab in a year. Californium is a synthetic radioactive element, that is, it is not found naturally on earth. It can only be made in the lab. There are only 24 synthetic elements in the whole world, Californium is also one of them. Special shipping containers are required for its transportation. Californium element was first made in 1950 by a team of University of California, Berkeley. In India, Californium can be obtained only from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai.
