Center gave approval
Last year, during a program in Chamoli district of the state, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had announced to change the name of Joshimath to Jyotirmath. After the announcement of the Chief Minister, a proposal was prepared for this and sent to the Central Government. Now the Central Government has approved this proposal.
Why did the disaster come in Joshimath?
There are some important factors behind the collapse of Joshimath. According to a survey conducted by the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority from August 2022, geological factors are playing an important role in the collapse of Joshimath. Extremely heavy rains and floods have also contributed to the collapse of Joshimath. The flood incidents of June 2013 and February 2021 also weakened the ground of the area, increasing the risk of its collapse.
