New Delhi: The ISSF (ISSF) World Cup Final is being played in India’s capital New Delhi, in which Indian shooter Akhil Sheoran won a medal on Wednesday, October 16. He had secured the quota for the Paris Olympics during the World Championship in Baku last year, but then he got injured during the Olympic selection trials in New Delhi and Bhopal. Due to this, he could not go to Paris and his dream of winning an Olympic medal was shattered.
He won this medal by defeating Paris Olympics gold medalist Liu Yukun of China. Hungary’s Istvan Peni won the gold medal at the Karni Singh Range. Apart from Akhil, other Indian shooters disappointed. Both Ashi Choksi and Nischal could not secure their place in the medal round in the women’s 50m rifle three positions. At the same time, Olympian Rhythm Sangwan missed the bronze medal in the third place shoot-off with a Chinese shooter in the 25m sports pistol. However, Akhil kept his composure and scored 452.6 to put India’s second medal in the last tournament of the year. At the same time, Istvan Peni scored 465.3 points in the final.
Earlier, Akhil had secured sixth place with a score of 589 in the qualification round and made it to the final of eight shooters. The second Indian shooter participating in the event, Chain Singh, finished fourth with a score of 592. However, he finished seventh in the final. Ashi, bronze medalist in the team event of Hangzhou Asian Games, finished ninth with a score of 587 in the women’s 50m rifle three positions qualification. Nischal finished 10th with a score of 585.
