Iran’s famous actress Taraneh Alidosti arrested

Tehran. Taraneh Alidosti, one of Iran’s most famous actresses, has been arrested by the security forces in Tehran. Taraneh Alidosti criticized the death sentence given to the protesters. Alidosti had earlier posted a picture of herself on her Instagram page. In which she was not wearing hijab and was holding a paper written ‘Women, Life, Freedom’. This is the slogan that has become a symbol of the struggle against the current Iranian government. Taraneh Alidosti is considered one of the most influential Iranian actresses of her generation.

According to a report in the British newspaper ‘The Guardian’, his arrest is an indication that the government wants to crack down on celebrities, artists and sports personalities who have used their social media platforms to challenge the government. It is not known which branch of Iran’s security services took him from his home. But the Tehran prosecutor’s office alleged that Alidosti was arrested for his inflammatory comments. The news of his arrest was given by film director Samiya Mirshamsi. Mirshamsi said Alidosti’s house was searched and it was not known where he was. Later, state media confirmed Alidosti’s arrest and said that his case is being further investigated.

Alidosti has won many awards in his career. The film ‘The Salesman’ starring him won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 2016. Alidosti’s picture without hijab has been liked more than 10 lakh times. It seems that his Instagram account has been closed. On which he had more than 80 lakh followers. Alidosti’s father, Hamid Alidosti, played football for the Iran national team and was the first Iranian to play for a foreign team. Alidosti, who is fluent in German and English, has also translated books by Alice Munro and Nicole Cross from English to Farsi.
