Iran launched attacks on several US bases.  (Iran )

Washington: Amidst ongoing tensions between the US and Iran, US President Donald Trump made a major U-turn, announcing a halt to plans for new military strikes against Iran    (Iran ) N  for the time being. Notably, this decision came just hours after he had warned of a major military operation and bombing campaign against the country. In a social media post, Trump stated that he decided to hold off on new military strikes because talks with Iran have reached the level of its top leadership and have received approval.

‘Significant progress made towards finding a solution’
Trump claimed that significant progress has been made among the US, Israel, and regional allies regarding advancing a ceasefire and finding a solution. However, he did not provide specific details in this regard. Trump stated that an agreement has been reached—both in principle and in detail—on several key issues. Although he has claimed multiple times in recent weeks that a deal is imminent, no concrete results have emerged so far.

Iran launched attacks on several US bases.
Meanwhile, the ceasefire established between the US and Iran on April 8 has collapsed, and both nations are continuously attacking each other’s positions. On Thursday, Iran targeted several US military bases. Iran claims to have launched heavy attacks on five US military bases located in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. According to Iranian officials, two US aircraft were destroyed in these attacks, and a hangar at a US airbase in Jordan was also demolished. Three US F-16 fighter jets damaged
Meanwhile, US media reports claim that three US F-16 fighter jets stationed in a hangar were also damaged or destroyed during the attack. Iran has also claimed to have targeted the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain. Additionally, reports indicate damage to two US military bases in Kuwait. The Iranian military has also claimed to have carried out a drone attack on the US Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.

Trump’s stance shifted completely within hours
It is worth noting that just hours earlier, Trump had stated he would not grant Iran any more time and had ordered the US military to resume bombing operations. He had also hinted that US forces might seize Iran’s strategically important Kharg Island. Trump maintained that he had offered Iran a chance for an agreement at Pakistan’s urging and through its mediation, but the deal could not proceed due to the “stubborn” Iranian leadership.
