Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly criticized Israel’s remarks regarding the Supreme Leader and warned (warning ) the US to keep its “pet” in Tel Aviv under control, or else the consequences would be severe. Araghchi reacted sharply to a statement by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, who had claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader—referring to him as Mojtaba Khamenei—was being “targeted for death.”
Araghchi issues a stern warning to the US
Araghchi stated, “The terms of the agreement are absolutely clear and public for all to see. The US President has promised to silence his protégés in Tel Aviv. If they defy their master, Iran will teach them a lesson.”
In statements shared by Israeli media on Monday, Katz described Iranians as “good negotiators” trying to extract concessions during talks and asserted that Israel would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. In response, Araghchi declared that “any threat against our people and leadership will be met with an immediate and forceful response.”
What did the former Israeli army chief say?
Former Israeli army chief Gadi Eisenkot has accused Benjamin Netanyahu of making claims that Iran possessed nuclear weapons in order to scare the public. According to the Israeli newspaper *Yedioth Ahronoth*, Eisenkot made these remarks at a conference in central Israel. He stated that the Prime Minister’s assertions regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities were false. Eisenkot, leader of the opposition party ‘Yeshar’, said, “Netanyahu made very incorrect statements. Iran did not possess any nuclear bombs. He is distorting reality to scare the Israeli public.”
What did Netanyahu say?
He was referring to comments Netanyahu made during an interview. In that interview, Netanyahu stated: “I went to Iran twice to save us from the nuclear bombs they already possessed and which could have led to our destruction.” It is worth noting that Iran has long denied seeking nuclear weapons, maintaining that its nuclear program is entirely peaceful.
What happened to the peace talks?
A day after US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with the Prime Minister of Qatar, Iranian officials are in Doha for indirect talks with Qatari mediators. The US states that technical discussions with Tehran are ongoing. Iran has refused direct, face-to-face talks with the US and has stated that the negotiations are focused on implementing an interim agreement, which includes the release of frozen funds.
Alex Vatanka of the Middle East Institute told Al Jazeera that opposition is growing within Iran regarding whether the agreement will actually be implemented. “This MoU looks impressive on paper, but what is happening in reality?”
