Washington: US President Donald Trump    ( Trump)   has made a major claim, stating that Iran is currently in a state of “severe crisis” and wants the United States to open the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible. Trump made this assertion in a social media post; however, it remains unclear how Iran conveyed this message to the US. Meanwhile, there has been no official response from Iran regarding this claim. On social media, Trump stated that Iran wants the US to open the Strait of Hormuz without delay so that it can resolve issues related to its leadership.

Questions Arise Over Trump’s Claim
Trump also expressed confidence that Iran would be capable of resolving its internal differences. However, this claim has raised several questions, as the White House has not yet clarified who delivered this message on Iran’s behalf, who received it in the US, or whether the communication took place directly or through an intermediary. In his post, Trump wrote: “Iran has told us that it is in ‘severe crisis’ and wants us to open the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible.” Trump’s statement comes at a time when global energy supplies have been severely disrupted due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Why is the Strait of Hormuz Important?
The “Strait of Hormuz” is one of the world’s most critical maritime routes, through which approximately one-fifth of the global oil supply passes. Consequently, the closure or disruption of this waterway has a direct impact on global energy supplies and oil prices. Earlier on Monday, Trump held a meeting with his national security team, during which Iran’s latest proposal was discussed. This proposal is reported to be related to the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre stated during a press conference that this issue has been discussed, but she wishes to refrain from commenting on the outcomes of the meeting at this time.

Are There Internal Divisions Within Iran’s Leadership?
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that while Iran is indeed “serious” about reaching an agreement with the United States, it also wishes to take its time. He remarked, “Iran seeks to extricate itself from its current predicament; however, the negotiations are being constrained by internal divisions among various factions within the country.” Rubio also indicated that internal discord within the Iranian leadership is impacting the peace negotiations. Furthermore, the U.S. administration believes that the ongoing naval pressure—specifically, the blockade—at Iran’s ports is having an effect.
