IPL 2022: Chennai Super Kings retained by paying Ravindra Jadeja more money than MS Dhoni

New Delhi: Four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings has announced the retained players ahead of the mega auction. In this, the charismatic captain of the team Mahendra Singh and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja have been selected. The team has placed Rituraj Gaikwad at number four in the list of retained players, while Moeen Ali has also been retained. Chennai retained Jadeja first and hence he has been given maximum Rs 16 crores, while Dhoni has been retained by paying 12 crores. Dhoni’s hand is behind this decision of the team.

We are saying this because, before the announcement of the names of the players to be retained, Dhoni had made it clear that he does not want to be the first retention pick. As per the retention rules of IPL 2022, the first retention pick gets Rs 16 crore. Then Dhoni had said that this opportunity should be given to some other player, so that the team can better allocate its funds. The team respected his decision here and chose Jadeja before him.

With Chennai retaining Dhoni, Jadeja, Gaekwad and Moeen Ali, it has been decided that star players like Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, Ambati Rayudu, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur will go for the mega auction. There is also news that after Dhoni expressed his desire to play the last T20 match in Chennai, it is certain that now he will play at most one more season and after that Jadeja can be made the new captain of the team.
