New Delhi: India has completely rejected Pakistan’s war-mongering statements and the decision of the so-called arbitration court regarding the Indus Water ( Indus Water) Treaty. In the weekly press conference on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal lashed out at Pakistan for its statements and also talked about the strong defense and strategic partnership between India and America. Let us tell you that while on one hand provocative statements are being made continuously by Pakistan, on the other hand, US President Donald Trump has imposed a 50 percent tariff on India for buying oil from Russia.
‘The result of any audacity will be painful’
Jaiswal said that war-mongering statements against India by the leadership of Pakistan are their old habit. He said that this is an attempt to hide their failures. Jaiswal said in a stern tone, ‘We advise Pakistan to exercise restraint in its rhetoric. Any kind of audacity will have painful consequences.’
India’s big statement on Indus Water Treaty
India completely rejected the decision of the so-called Arbitration Court regarding the Indus Water Treaty. Jaiswal said, ‘India has never accepted the legitimacy, jurisdiction or competence of this so-called court. Its decision has no legal basis and it does not affect India’s water use rights.’ He also reiterated that on 27 June 2025, the Government of India suspended this treaty under a sovereign decision. This decision was taken in response to Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism, especially the Pahalgam attack.
Emphasis on strong partnership between India and America
The Ministry of External Affairs also highlighted the deep strategic relationship between India and America. Jaiswal said, ‘India and America have a comprehensive global strategic partnership, which is based on shared interests, democratic values and strong people-to-people relations. This relationship has gone through many changes and challenges, but our focus is on advancing a relationship based on mutual respect and shared interests.’
India-US joint military exercise to be held in Alaska
Many important steps are being taken this month to further strengthen the India-US defense partnership. Jaiswal said that a defense policy team from the US will visit India in mid-August. Apart from this, the 21st joint military exercise will be held in Alaska this month. Both the countries are also going to hold a 2 + 2 intersessional meeting later this month. Jaiswal said, ‘Defense cooperation is an important pillar of our bilateral relations, which has strengthened in all areas.’
No decision yet on PM Modi’s UNGA visit
The Ministry of External Affairs said that no decision has been taken yet on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UNGA. At the same time, the ministry also said that India is an active member of the BRICS group and is in constant touch with other member countries on issues of shared interests. Clarifying India’s stand on alternative currency and de-dollarisation, he said it is not part of India’s financial agenda. On India-China border trade, Jaiswal said India is in talks with China to resume trade through Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand, Shipki La Pass in Himachal Pradesh and Nathu La Pass in Sikkim.
