New Delhi: Advocating strong friendship and cooperation with India, Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong called the heavy tariff imposed by the US on India   (Indian )     as ‘hooliganism’. He said that the US has imposed a tariff of up to 50% on India and has threatened to increase it further, which China strongly opposes. Feihong said, ‘America took advantage of free trade for a long time, but now it is using tariff as a weapon. Keeping silent will give more encouragement to this hooliganism. China stands firmly with India.

‘India-China unity is necessary for the world’

The Chinese Ambassador said at a program in New Delhi on Thursday that unity and cooperation between two big neighboring countries like India and China is the path to development. He said, ‘Both of us are the two engines of Asia. Our friendship is beneficial not only for us but for the entire Asia and the world. India and China should increase mutual trust and resolve differences through dialogue. We are not rivals, but partners.’

Fehong promised to give more space to Indian goods in the Chinese market. He said, ‘We will welcome Indian goods more in our market. India has strength in IT, software and biomedicine, while China is growing rapidly in the field of electronics, infrastructure and new energy.’ Talking about the global situation, the Chinese ambassador said that the world is currently going through a period of major change. He said, ‘The biggest change in the international system is taking place after the Second World War. In such a situation, cooperation between India and China becomes even more important. We have to take responsibility for promoting an equal and orderly multipolar world.’

Emphasis laid on increasing people-to-people contact
Fehong also talked about promoting people-to-people contact between the two countries. He said, ‘China has resumed the pilgrimage to the holy mountain Kailash and the lake for Indian pilgrims, and India has also resumed tourist visas for Chinese citizens.’ This move is a major step towards strengthening cultural and public relations between the two countries. The Chinese ambassador described friendship and cooperation between India and China as important for global stability. He said that both countries should resolve differences through mutual trust and dialogue.
