Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin (Putin ) issued significant statements regarding relations with India on Thursday. Putin heaped praise on India’s democracy, its rapidly growing economy, and its consistent prioritization of national interests. Putin also stated that Russia’s trade with India would soon reach the $100 billion mark. In his address, Putin also took aim at the United States. Trade to Reach $100 Billion: Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that India ranks among the world’s largest economies and currently boasts an impressive economic growth rate. Putin further expressed his firm confidence that, in the near future, bilateral trade between Russia and India would reach $100 billion. He added that Russia regards India as a trusted partner.
Putin Takes Aim at the US
In his address, Russian President Vladimir Putin also took a dig at the United States. Putin stated that the US is attempting to exert pressure on India regarding various issues—including cooperation with Russia—but asserted that India would resist such efforts. Putin further remarked that Russia does not view India’s bilateral relations with any other country in a negative light. Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded by stating that India is a great nation and a democracy; it steadfastly safeguards its national interests.
Putin to Visit India in September
It is worth noting that Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit India on September 12 and 13 to attend the BRICS Summit. India is currently holding the presidency of the annual BRICS Summit for this year. Previously, BRICS comprised Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. In 2024, BRICS expanded, and Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE were inducted into the group. Subsequently, in 2025, Indonesia joined BRICS. Putin had previously visited India in December 2025.
