Qatar: Indian government has got a big diplomatic (diplomatic ) victory in Qatar and eight Indians who were sentenced to death in Qatar have been released. The Ministry of External Affairs said that seven out of eight Indians have returned back to India. All the former nine soldiers worked at Al Dahra Global Technologies in Doha. The Government of India has expressed happiness over the release of all eight Indians. The Foreign Ministry said that we appreciate the decision of the Emir of Qatar for the release and return of our citizens to their homes.
Death sentence was given on charges of alleged espionage.
In August 2022, 8 former marines were arrested in Qatar on charges of espionage. According to sources, all were accused of allegedly spying on the submarine project. After which everyone was kept in jail. Eight former marines were sentenced to death for alleged espionage. However, after the intervention of the Indian government, the court there reduced the punishment of all the soldiers. The central government was also surprised by this decision of Qatar.

People working with Doha-based Al Dahra Global Technologies were arrested in August 2022. These include commanders Purnendu Tiwari, Sugunakar Pakala, Amit Nagpal and Sanjeev Gupta. Navtej Singh Gill, Birendra Kumar Verma and Saurabh Vashishtha are the captains, while the eighth person is Ragesh Gopkumar. India had also provided legal aid to all the ex-servicemen. However, the release of 8 former marines is a big victory for India.
