Kiev: Even before the possible talks between the US and Russian presidents next week on the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukrainian President Zelensky (Zelensky) has shown his fierce side. Zelensky has clearly refused to leave the areas of Ukraine occupied by Russia under any agreement.
Zelensky said – Include Ukraine in the talks as well
Along with refusing to formally leave the territory of Ukraine, Zelensky said that Ukraine should be made a part of any talks focused on ending the war. It is worth noting that Trump has claimed that on August 15, he will meet Russian President Vladimir in Alaska. Trump has said that this effort to initiate peace in the Russia-Ukraine war is expected to prove very fruitful.
Zelensky warns Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday rejected accepting any conditions of the proposed meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He warned that if Kiev was not included in this peace talks, the result of any such agreement would only be “dead solutions”.
Trump-Putin meeting to be held in Alaska
Trump had said in a post on his Truth Social that he would meet with Putin on Friday, August 15 in Alaska to end the Ukraine war. But now after this statement of Zelensky, the hopes of Putin-Trump talks being successful have started to be clouded. Especially at a time when disappointment was being expressed over the slow pace of efforts to stop the war for the past few weeks.
Zelensky released a statement on Telegram
In a statement released on Telegram, Zelensky said that the territorial integrity of Ukraine, enshrined in the country’s constitution, cannot be compromised at any cost. He stressed that lasting peace is possible only when Ukraine has a voice at the negotiating table. Zelensky said, “Ukraine will not reward Russia for its actions and Ukrainians will not hand over anything to those who occupy their land.”
There will be no solution without Ukraine
There is concern in Ukraine and Europe about the direct meeting between Putin and Trump that it may marginalize Kiev and European interests. On this, Zelensky said, “Any solution that will be brought by bypassing Ukraine will be against peace. Such solutions will bring nothing. These will be dead solutions, which will never work.” Ukrainian officials had earlier told AP privately that Kiev could agree to a peace deal that recognizes that Ukraine cannot militarily take back all its lost territories.
Why Zelensky got angry before Trump-Putin talks
While talking to reporters at the White House, Trump had indicated that “swapping of some territories” might be possible in an agreement, but he did not give any details about it. Some analysts associated with the Kremlin believe that Russia may propose to leave those areas from Ukraine that are outside the four regions that it has already claimed to have annexed. Trump also said that his meeting with Putin would take place before any talks with Zelensky. He made it clear that even if Putin does not want to meet Zelensky, he is ready to meet Putin.
Trump broke tradition
Trump’s announcement to call Putin for a meeting in Alaska, America has also broken the tradition that such conferences are usually held in a neutral third country. Putin also demanded that he wanted this meeting in the United Arab Emirates. But this move by Trump is being considered as strengthening Putin’s legitimacy, whereas America and its allies have been trying to isolate him internationally due to the Ukraine war. But no official statement has come from Russia yet on whether Putin will go to America on Trump’s invitation.
