With the demise of Karnam, the knot of their married life broke. Karnam died in 2016 and Kartari died in 2019. If we add the ages of both husband and wife, it was 213 years on their 90th wedding anniversary. At that time Karnam Chand was 110 years old and Kartari was 103 years old. They celebrated this wedding anniversary in October 2016. Then the British media including BBC covered it.
Both Karnam and Kartari were born in the same district of Punjab. Only their villages were different. Both were born in agricultural families. When they got married according to Sikh rituals in India, there was British rule in the country. After 40 years, the couple moved to Bradford, New Yorkshire in 1965.
