Gaurav Gogoi Claps Back at Assam CM: “If My Wife is ISI, I Am RAW”

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has firmly dismissed allegations made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) linking his wife, Elizabeth Colebourn Gogoi, to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He labeled these claims as baseless and a diversionary tactic by the BJP to shift focus from pressing national issues.

The controversy arose when BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia alleged that Elizabeth Colebourn, through her previous association with the Climate and Knowledge Development Network (CDKN) in Islamabad, had connections with the ISI. The BJP highlighted her professional relationship with Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, a former advisor to Pakistan’s Planning Commission, suggesting potential national security concerns.

In response, Gaurav Gogoi criticized the ruling party for spreading misinformation instead of addressing critical issues such as inflation, unemployment, and the ongoing crisis in Manipur. He expressed confidence in the public’s ability to discern truth from falsehoods, stating, “Today, BJP doesn’t have any issues to raise. They are dependent on spreading lies. I feel that people of the country are very intelligent and they can see the difference between lies and truth. Let them spread rumours, we will continue to do our work.”

The Congress party has rallied behind Gogoi, condemning the BJP’s allegations as unfounded and emphasizing the need to focus on genuine national concerns rather than engaging in character assassination.
