Lucknow, August 25: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved 24 out of 27 proposals presented during a meeting held on Tuesday. The decisions include a free bus travel initiative for senior women, the extension of the Ganga Expressway towards Haridwar, and the development of a major manufacturing and logistics hub in Sultanpur.
Free Bus Travel for Women Above 60
One of the key decisions was the approval of the Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrushakti Scheme, under which women aged above 60 years are proposed to receive lifetime free travel on buses operated by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation.
The scheme is expected to benefit more than one crore women across the state. Eligible passengers will be able to use approved identity documents, including Aadhaar and voter ID, for verification while travelling.
Ganga Expressway to Extend Towards Haridwar
The Cabinet also approved a major expansion of the Ganga Expressway. The proposed extension will connect Bijnor with Haridwar, with an estimated investment of around ₹10,761 crore.
Once completed, the extended corridor is expected to improve high-speed connectivity between Prayagraj and Haridwar, linking two major Kumbh cities through a controlled-access road network.
Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster in Sultanpur
Another important proposal cleared by the Cabinet relates to the development of an Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster (IMLC) near the Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur.
The project is estimated to cost approximately ₹272.25 crore and is expected to support industrial development and logistics infrastructure in the region. The construction agency for the project will reportedly be selected through a global bidding process.
Major Push for Transport and Infrastructure
The latest Cabinet decisions underline the Uttar Pradesh government’s focus on social welfare, improved transport facilities, industrial growth and large-scale infrastructure development. The approved proposals are expected to strengthen connectivity and create new opportunities for economic activity across different parts of the state.
