Rio de Janeiro. Sabine Col Boghisi, a 48-year-old Brazilian woman, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly defrauding her mother of nearly $142 million. The woman is alleged to have hatched a bizarre plan to defraud her 82-year-old mother, with a total of approximately 724 million reais ($142.42 million) including money, artwork and jewelry. Genevieve Boghisi, wife of the late art collector Jean Boghisi, was blackmailed and duped by her daughter in connivance with some people.
The arrest of the woman has exposed the fraud mechanism that was going on for years. Police say that some alleged psychics were also involved in this fraud to dupe artworks of some of Brazil’s most famous painters worth crores of rupees. Four other people were also arrested along with the woman and two others are absconding.
This fraud started in 2020 when a man from Genevieve predicted that his daughter was going to die soon. After this the victim was taken to many more such people. Police say that these people used the personal information given by her daughter to extort money from the mother. Police have alleged that the suspects later threatened to physically torture Genevieve and that her daughter kept her in the house for months.
