For landslide reduction, Uttarakhand has been sanctioned a project worth ₹125 crores by the Government of India. In the first phase, ₹4.5 crores has been released.

Under the continuous efforts and guidance of Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state of Uttarakhand has received approval of an important project of ₹ 125 crore from the Government of India for landslide reduction and management. This project has been proposed for long-term solution in the identified most susceptible landslide areas of the state.

In line with the instructions of the CM, the proposals prepared by the State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) and Uttarakhand Landslide Mitigation and Management Center (ULMMC), Dehradun were sent to the Government of India. In line with the guidelines of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Home Ministry took prompt action and approved the project worth ₹ 125 crore.

In the first phase, an advance amount of ₹4.5 crore has been released for exploration work and preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR). Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister on behalf of the state government and the people of the state for this cooperation. Chief Minister Shri Dhami said that this project is a decisive initiative towards long-term solution in the landslide-affected areas of the state. He has selected five sensitive sites most affected by landslides on priority basis.

Mansa Devi Hill Bypass Road, Haridwar

Continuous landslides and falling of rocks on the Mansa Devi Hill are posing a threat to public safety. This route is used as an alternate route during the Kanwar Yatra. An estimated 50,000+ local citizens are affected by this disaster. Galogi Hydroelectric Project Road, Mussoorie (Dehradun) Located at Km 25 of the Dehradun-Mussoorie road, this area is frequently affected by landslides during the monsoon, disrupting traffic and causing severe damage to the road structure. Bahuguna Nagar Landslide Area, Karnaprayag (Chamoli) Residential buildings and roads have suffered extensive damage due to severe incidents of landslides in this area located at Karnaprayag. This area is highly unstable from the geological point of view.

Charton Lodge Landslide Area, Nainital

A massive landslide in September 2023 affected many houses and temporarily displaced many families. Inadequate drainage system and continuous rain were the main factors. Khotila-Ghatdhar Landslide Area, Dharchula (Pithoragarh) – Located on the India-Nepal border, this area is affected by excessive rainfall and soil erosion, which has caused severe soil erosion in the border area.
