Emphasize on safe operation of trains during fog: General Manager


New Delhi: Ashutosh Gangal, General Manager, Northern Railway, conducted a performance review meeting (on video) with Heads of Departments and Divisional Railway Managers of Northern Railway through videoconferencing. The General Manager said that safety is the priority of the Railways. All efforts should be made for this. He directed to give top priority to maintenance of tracks, running stops, signaling and maintenance of overhead wires.
He reviewed the works related to improving the maintenance standards of the tracks, smooth functioning of the signaling system and other safety arrangements during the ensuing foggy season. He directed to expeditiously remove the scrap lying near the tracks, increase patrolling on the tracks during winter season, visual examination of rail and fishbowl holes and identification of fracture prone areas so as to prevent any mishap.
He further said that the divisions should enhance safety and where necessary training and counseling should be provided to the employees. He stressed on increasing the safety in relay and panel rooms for smooth movement of trains. He stressed on minimizing human errors in rail operations. He directed the Heads of Departments and Divisional Railway Managers to maintain punctuality at 95% and increase the speed of freight loading, giving priority to safety.
Talking on Freight Business Development, the General Manager took stock of the expanded scope of business units. He said that BDU should create an atmosphere of trust, cooperation and self-confidence among the customers. He said that the concessions given by the Railways should reach the customers. He said that the loading of food grains and other items has increased with each passing month.
