Emphasis on increasing freight loading and income – Ashutosh Gangal

New Delhi – Shri Ashutosh Gangal, General Manager, Northern Railway, today reviewed the work progress of Northern Railway with Heads of Departments and Divisional Railway Managers of Northern Railway at Head Office, Baroda House, New Delhi. Extension of platforms, raising of surface of platforms, provision of washable aprons, second entrance, foot-over-bridge, escalators, lifts, fans, drinking water, lighting, passenger announcement system, provision for differently abled Topics like improvement of station building including toilets, main gate and providing passenger amenities at stations were discussed. He also reviewed the progress of mobility enhancement and other developmental infrastructure works and freight loading.
He directed to speed up the campaigns to maintain better records of punctuality of trains and to check the progress of works related to increase in mobility. He also reviewed the work done on the zone to improve the maintenance standards of tracks, welds and removal of scrap lying near the tracks. The General Manager reviewed the work of removal of vegetation growing on the sides of the railway tracks and pruning of trees.
Shri Gangal also informed that a month-long intensive safety campaign has been launched by the Indian Railways to prevent train derailments, Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD) and other types of accidents from 19.02.2023 . Senior officers of Zonal Railways and Railway Divisions have been instructed to visit various sections, lobbies, maintenance centres, work sites etc. to check the safe operation and maintenance procedures laid down to prevent accidents/unusual occurrences and take necessary action to implement the same. Also do a thorough review of the procedures for the same. compliance of signaling aspects and braking procedures by the Assistant Loco Pilots/Loco Pilots; compliance with speed restrictions; Counseling of operators of track machines/tower wagons; workplace safety; Special emphasis has been laid on prevention of short-cuts etc. Officers to spend sufficient time in the section/lobby/maintenance center/work place to observe operation/maintenance/work practices and interact with staff on proper and improper practices to understand and resolve problems faced by staff in the field Instructions have been given to negotiate.
Shri Gangal stressed on reducing human failures in rail operations and intensive monitoring of rail cracks and rail welds. He said that there should not be any mistake in these works. He said that the officers should increase their inspections to check the progress of works and train operations.

He also informed that the loading of food grains and other items has increased with each passing month.
