Double attack of cold ( cold) 

Delhi: The cold   ( cold)  wave intensifies in North India. Daytime temperatures dropped in the national capital, Delhi, and fog restricted visibility in parts of Rajasthan. Churu, Rajasthan, recorded a minimum temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius. Temperatures in Kashmir also remained below freezing. The Meteorological Department has forecast light rain or snowfall in the hill states and the upper reaches of the valley over the next few days.

Delhi’s minimum temperature reaches 7.4 degrees Celsius
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 17.3 degrees Celsius, two degrees below the season’s average. The minimum temperature was 7.4 degrees Celsius, 0.5 degrees above normal.

Light rain and snowfall forecast in the mountains
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain or snowfall in the higher reaches of northern and central Kashmir and some places in Himachal Pradesh on January 5 and 6. The IMD stated that minimum temperatures in central and eastern India are likely to gradually drop by two to four degrees Celsius over the next three days, after which there will be no significant change for the next four days.

Fever to fall further
The Meteorological Department has also predicted frost at some places in Uttarakhand on January 5 and 6. It stated that minimum temperatures are likely to increase in Gujarat over the next five days. No significant change in minimum temperatures is forecast for the rest of India.

Ayanagar, Delhi, records 6.6 degrees Celsius
Delhi’s temperature continues to drop due to the increasing cold. According to IMD data, the minimum temperature in the Ridge area was recorded at 8.9 degrees Celsius, followed by Lodhi Road at 7.6 degrees, Safdarjung at 7.4 degrees, Palam at 6.8 degrees, and Ayanagar at 6.6 degrees Celsius. According to station-wise maximum temperature data, the Ridge recorded a maximum temperature of 17.8 degrees Celsius.

Delhi’s AQI recorded 307
According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was 307 at 4 pm, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category. Moderate to dense fog prevailed at many places in Rajasthan during the morning, with Fatehpur in Sikar district recording the lowest minimum temperature of 1.1 degrees Celsius.

Minimum temperature 4.4 degrees Celsius in Pali and Churu
According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Sirohi, Pali, and Churu was recorded at 4.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Vanasthali at 4 degrees Celsius, Lunkaransar at 2.8 degrees Celsius, and Sikar at 2.5 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures reaching minus in Srinagar
Temperatures remained below zero in Kashmir, with minimum temperatures dropping further across the valley. The minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at minus 3.2 degrees Celsius, significantly lower than the minus 1.5 degrees Celsius recorded the previous night. Kashmir is currently experiencing Chilla-e-Kalan, the harshest 40-day period of winter. During this period, nighttime temperatures often drop several degrees below freezing. However, the plains of the valley have not yet received snowfall this season.
