Donald Trump spoke with PM Modi( Modi ) 

Washington: The US has announced a reduction in tariffs on India. The tariffs have been reduced from 25 percent to 18 percent. This announcement was made after a telephone conversation between Donald Trump and PM Modi. Trump said that an agreement was reached on a major trade deal during the phone call with Modi.  ( Modi )  In a post on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the phone this morning, during which a significant bilateral trade agreement was reached between the two. Trump called Modi his “great friend” and “a powerful and respected leader of his country.”

Trump made this claim
Trump said that the conversation covered issues such as trade and ending the Russia-Ukraine war. He claimed that Prime Minister Modi agreed to stop buying Russian oil, and that India will now consider buying much more oil from the US, and also discussed the possibility of buying oil from Venezuela.

Trade Deal: Major Tariff Reduction
In his Truth Social post, Trump stated that an agreement was also reached on changes to reciprocal tariffs between the US and India. Under this, the US has reduced the tariff on Indian goods from 25% to 18%, and will also move towards eliminating import duties and non-tariff barriers from India to zero (0%). Trump said that India is now committed to buying more than $500 billion worth of goods from the US, including energy, technology, agricultural products, and coal, which will further strengthen the economic relations between the two countries.

Trump said that “our wonderful relationship will now be even stronger” and presented himself and Prime Minister Modi as leaders who get things done and complete deals. This announcement reflects the growing strategic and economic cooperation between the US and India, especially at a time when global trade, energy security, and geopolitics are rapidly evolving.

PM Modi expresses delight
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his happiness regarding his conversation with US President Donald Trump. PM Modi said that it was wonderful to speak with President Trump and he was extremely pleased to learn that US tariffs on ‘Made in India’ products have now been reduced to 18 percent. Prime Minister Modi thanked President Trump on behalf of India’s 1.4 billion people for this decision and called it a significant step for India-US trade relations.

PM Modi said, “When the world’s two largest economies and biggest democracies work together, it directly benefits our people and opens up immense opportunities for mutual cooperation.” He also appreciated President Trump’s role in promoting global peace. PM Modi said that President Trump’s leadership is crucial for global peace, stability, and prosperity, and India fully supports his peace efforts. The Prime Minister also said that he looks forward to working with President Trump to further strengthen the India-US partnership.

US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gore, also wrote in a social media post, “As I’ve said many times, President Trump truly considers Prime Minister Modi a great friend!
