Various unions are demanding hike in fare rates and reduction in CNG prices. Most organizations said they would go on a one-day strike, but the Sarvodaya Driver Association Delhi said it would go on an “indefinite” strike from Monday. The organizations have decided to go on strike despite the Delhi government announcing the formation of a committee to consider the fare revision in a time bound manner.
Kamaljeet Gill, president of Sarvodaya Driver Association Delhi, said, “We have decided to go on an indefinite strike from Monday as the government does not take any steps to help us by reducing fuel prices and revising fares.” But hundreds of auto, taxi and cab drivers recently protested at the Delhi Secretariat demanding subsidy. Soni said, “We cannot run our loss-making autos and cabs every day because CNG prices are on a gallop. This is a symbolic protest to oppose the hike in prices.
