Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu honored many eminent persons with Padma awards on Thursday. PM Modi was also present in the civil investiture ceremony organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During this time, when S. Rajanna, a disabled person from Karnataka, who lost both his arms and legs (disabled.)  in childhood, was honored with Padma Shri, there was thunderous applause. He went to greet Modi and Shah while going to receive the honour. When Rajanna was honored, the dignitaries and guests present at the function kept clapping continuously.
Actually Rajanna is known for his work for the welfare of disabled people. It is said that Rajanna lost both his arms and legs due to polio at the age of 11 months, but he never gave up. He worked for the disabled people and now he has been honored with Padma Shri.

A topic of discussion across the country..
Rajanna walks on his knees. He worked so much for the disabled people that he became a topic of discussion across the country. In 2013, the Karnataka government made him the State Commissioner for the Disabled. Rajanna has also got a special bike made for himself with which he keeps moving continuously and serving the people. Currently he is in the news and his video has also surfaced in which he is seen receiving the Padma Shri.
Let us inform that for this year 2024, the President had approved the conferment of 132 Padma awards, which includes two couplet cases (the award is counted as one). This list includes five Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 110 Padma Shri awards. More than half of the award winners were honored on April 22, with the remainder honored on Thursday.
