Notably, an expert has claimed that more than 70 per cent of the population in Shanghai is already infected with Covid amid a massive surge in cases in China. China has seen a huge jump in Covid cases since the strict zero-covid policy was relaxed last month. A report by London-based analytics firm Airfinity claimed that more than 250 million people in China were infected with the virus in the first 20 days of December.
European Union (EU) member states on Wednesday sharpened a coordinated effort to deal with the Kovid-19 crisis originating in China and are considering travel restrictions that will inconvenience both China and the global aviation industry. China has already rejected travel restrictions imposed by some EU countries and has warned of “retaliatory measures” if the trend escalates in the coming days.
