New Delhi: Ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, sources said on Saturday that three sitting Lok Sabha members of the Congress and three former Rajya Sabha members are in touch with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leadership and may join the Mamata Banerjee-led party.
Sources said that they have been in touch with the TMC leadership for some time, however, the party is yet to take a decision in this matter. He told that one MP is from North India and one from South India.
On the presidential election, sources close to the TMC said that West Bengal’s ruling party is confident that some opposition MLAs will vote in favor of Yashwant Sinha and he (Sinha) will get the support of over 220 MLAs of the 294-member state assembly. Sources said the party is hopeful that some opposition MPs from the state may also vote in favor of Sinha.
To expand the party outside West Bengal, the TMC has appointed former Meghalaya Chief Minister and recent joiners Mukul Sangma, cricketer-turned-politician Kirti Azad and Babul Supriyo as spokespersons, he said. Sources also said that many opposition parties have started looking for a joint candidate for the Vice Presidential election like in the Presidential election.
