Cold Wave Warning in 13 States (Cold) 

New Delhi: Delhi-NCR is experiencing a severe cold wave. Delhi recorded its first cold   (Cold)   day of the year on Tuesday, as the maximum temperature dropped sharply, making the national capital feel quite cold. Similar conditions are expected to prevail on Wednesday as well.

Severe Cold Expected in These States

The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave warning for Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Sikkim for the next 24 hours. In fact, parts of the northern and Himalayan states of the country are already experiencing cold days, and temperatures have dropped to new lows in many areas. A ‘yellow’ alert for a cold wave has been issued for the Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, and Chatra districts of Jharkhand.

Meanwhile, in West Bengal, the capital Kolkata recorded its coldest day of January with a temperature of 10.2 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department’s forecast states that the cold will intensify in southern West Bengal over the next few days.

Where will dense fog occur?

The Meteorological Department said that there is a very high probability of dense fog in some parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana-Chandigarh during the morning hours from January 7-9, and dense fog is likely to prevail in isolated areas for the next 4 days. Dense fog may occur in some parts of West Rajasthan during the morning hours on January 7.

Minimum temperature in Rajgarh: 2.0°C

Minimum temperatures are being recorded below 0°C in many places in Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad. In Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, temperatures are below 0-5°C in some places. In Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha, temperatures were recorded between 5°-10°C in many places. The lowest minimum temperature in the plains of India was recorded at 2.0°C in Rajgarh (western Madhya Pradesh).

Rain and Snowfall Alert

On January 7, 2026, light rain and snowfall are very likely at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
