Uttarkashi: The biggest cloudburst (Cloud burst ) incident of the monsoon of the year 2025 has come to light in Dharali of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, in which many people are reported missing. The continuous rain is raining like a disaster on the mountains. Cloudburst in Harshil area of Uttarkashi caused flood within 30 seconds in which many people have been swept away. SDRF, Revenue, Army Disaster Team reached the spot as soon as the information was received and are engaged in relief and rescue work on the spot. According to the information, due to the sudden cloudburst, many houses in the town have been swept away in the flood due to the water along with debris in Khir Gad. According to reports, so far 10 people have died in the incident, more than 40 people are missing and more than 100 are stranded. The army has also rescued 20 people by speeding up the relief work.
5 hotels completely destroyed
According to the information, 5 hotels have been completely destroyed in the devastating flood in Kheer Ganga river in Dharali, the main stop of Gangotri Dham. People told that a cloud burst somewhere above the catchment area of Kheer Ganga, due to which this devastating flood has come. There is an atmosphere of panic among the people due to the devastating flood. Uttarkashi DM Prashant Arya said that there are many hotels and restaurants at the place where the cloud burst. Arya said that some tourists are also stranded there. According to reports, 10 people have died in the incident, and many people are missing. Rescue workers have rescued 80 people.
PM Modi and Home Minister spoke to Dhami
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a post on ‘X’ that no stone is being left unturned to provide help to the people. He said, ‘I express my condolences to the people affected by this tragedy in Dharali, Uttarkashi. Along with this, I wish well to all the victims. I have taken information about the situation by talking to Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami ji. Relief and rescue teams are making every possible effort under the supervision of the state government. No stone is being left unturned to provide help to the people.’ Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to Dhami and ordered to send 7 rescue teams to help the affected people.
What did CM Dhami say?
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said- “The news of heavy damage caused by cloudburst in Dharali (Uttarkashi) area is very sad and painful. SDRF, NDRF, district administration and other related teams are engaged on war footing for relief and rescue operations. I am constantly in touch with senior officials in this regard and the situation is being closely monitored. I pray to God for everyone’s safety.” In view of the disaster, the District Administration Uttarkashi has also issued helpline numbers. Damage was also caused in 2013 and 2018
These incidents have increased the water level of Bhagirathi river, creating the danger of floods and landslides in other areas. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain. Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said that Dharali had also suffered damage due to cloudburst in 2013 and 2018, but this time the devastation is unprecedented. The market of Dharali, which used to be bustling with tourists, has now become a pile of rubble, and this fury of nature has once again exposed the vulnerabilities of the Himalayan region.
