New Delhi: Opposition unity will be tested on the soil of Haryana amid the ongoing exercise to unite the opposition against the Modi government. According to the indications from the exercise, it will become a front of the non-Congress opposition. But, there is a lot of speculation about the real picture of the rally between non-Congress parties as well.
Sources associated with INLD say that leaders like Nitish Kumar and Sharad Pawar have advised Chautala to prepare the program organized by INLD on the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Devi Lal as a big front against the central government. But, INLD has its hesitation regarding Congress and Aam Aadmi Party in Haryana.
It is worth mentioning that INLD party is going to celebrate the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Devi Lal in Fatehabad on 25 September. INLD celebrates it as Samman Diwas. On this birth anniversary, INLD has tried to bring many anti-BJP parties on one platform. The arrival of Pawar and Nitish in the program is believed to be fixed, but Mamta has not yet opened her cards. Everyone’s eye is also on KCR’s stand. At present, every effort is being made to bring Mamta on the stage, so that a big message can be sent. The situation regarding Aam Aadmi Party is not clear. Sources said some of the opposition parties may stay away from it for different reasons.
Recently, INLD supremo Omprakash Chautala had a meeting with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Gurugram. However, the INLD is losing its strong support base in Haryana after the split in the Chautala family and the party has been reduced to only one of the 90 assembly seats. With the campaign to bring back his support base by becoming the axis of opposition unity, Nitish also wants to be seen standing together on the exercise of leaders like Pawar for a big front for the Lok Sabha elections.
These leaders have agreed
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, NCP President Sharad Pawar, National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah, Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik, Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav for the honor day rally. There is talk of inviting other leaders including former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Sharad Yadav, KC Tyagi and Sukhbir Singh Badal. Indian National Lok Dal has prepared for this rally to be held near Hisar.
This will be the first time in many years that non-BJP and non-Congress leaders from across the country will be on the same platform. Apart from TRS leader KCR, there is talk of inviting Meghalaya Governor and Satya Pal Malik, who is constantly criticizing the Modi government. Time will tell how successful 87-year-old Chaudhary Omprakash Chautala will be in his campaign, but instead of giving a message of overall opposition unity, this platform may prove to be a third front exercise.
Devi Lal had united the opposition
Let us tell you that in the year 1977 and after that in 1989, Chaudhary Devi Lal had united the entire opposition. Devi Lal had also opened a front against the Congress in the whole of North India while holding a big rally from the soil of Haryana itself. In the changed circumstances, the BJP has become a common political enemy of the opposition. Devi Lal had organized a historic rally in Jind on 23 March 1986. After this, Chaudhary Devi Lal emerged as a mass leader. After that, in the 1987 assembly elections, a thumping majority government was formed under the leadership of Devi Lal.
Significantly, on June 2021, Chaudhary Omprakash Chautala got regular release from jail in the JBT recruitment case. Chautala is continuously active after his release from jail. Anyway, for some time now, initiatives are being taken by many other leaders regarding the Third Front.
