New Delhi. Two wrestlers Avinash Panghal and Surjit Kalkal have moved the Delhi High Court against the exemption given to Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia(Brijbhushan’) for the Asian Games trials. The court will hear the matter on Thursday. The wrestlers who filed the petition have demanded a fair selection. Justice Subramaniam Prasad’s bench will hear the matter

Earlier, 19-year-old female wrestler Avinash Panghal released a video opposing Vinesh Phogat’s exemption in trials. The latter had questioned the exemption given to wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat for direct entry in the Asian Games 2023 by an ad hoc panel of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

The last Panghal lands in the 53 kg weight category. He said that Vinesh will get direct entry in the Asian Games, whereas he has not practiced for the last 1 year and neither has any achievement in his name.

Last further said, “Last year in the Junior World Championship, I won the gold medal and became the first Indian woman wrestler to achieve this feat. At the same time, he also won a silver medal in the Asian Championship. Panghal said that Sakshi Malik has won a medal in the Olympics. They are not being sent. What is so special about Vinesh? which he was exempted from. Get trials done directly. Not only me, there are many girls who can beat Vinesh.

On the decision of the ad-hoc committee to exempt Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia from the Asian Games trials, outgoing WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said, “I am disappointed with the decision of the ad-hoc committee. This will harm the sport of wrestling in this country.”
