Breaking ties with India is not in our interest Bilawal Bhutto
Islamabad. After almost three years, Pakistan is now beginning to understand. In 2019, Pakistan had made many types of separation from India. However, India started isolating Pakistan only after the incident of Uri. Now Pakistan has suffered heavy losses due to all these incidents. This is the reason that Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is now openly expressing the need to build relations with India.
Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Thursday strongly advocated restoration of ties with India, saying breaking ties with New Delhi would not be in the interest of the country as Islamabad was already isolated internationally.
Kashmir’s raga also struck
Addressing the foundation day celebrations of the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad, Bilawal said, “We have issues with India. There is a long history of war, conflict between Pakistan and India. Today, we have serious disputes and the events of August 2019 cannot be taken lightly. Significantly, on August 5, 2019, India had announced the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution to end the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, after which there was a rift in the relations between India and Pakistan.
India’s decision drew strong backlash from Pakistan, leading to a downgrade of diplomatic ties and the expulsion of the Indian envoy. On the Kashmir issue, Bilawal said that this issue has become the basis of any conversation I have since becoming the Foreign Minister.
Is it in our interest to break ties with India?
Referring to the restoration of relations with India, the External Affairs Minister said, “In May, we had the Delimitation Commission (in J&K) and then recently the ‘Islamophobia’ remarks of the office-bearers create an environment in which the engagement for Pakistan Not impossible but certainly difficult. Bilawal asked the people present at the think-tank program whether Pakistan’s interests were being served by severing ties with India, be it on Kashmir, whether it was on rising Islamaphobia or emphasizing the ideology of Hindutva in India.
