BJP Likely to Announce New West Bengal Chief Minister Today, Suvendu Adhikari Emerges as Front-Runner

National:West Bengal is likely to get its new chief minister soon after the Bharatiya Janata Party’s major victory in the state assembly elections. The BJP is expected to officially select its legislative party leader on Friday, a move that will effectively finalize the name of the next chief minister.

According to party sources, a crucial meeting of newly elected BJP MLAs has been scheduled for 4 PM at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town, Kolkata. Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to attend the meeting and oversee the selection process.

Among the leading contenders, Suvendu Adhikari is considered the strongest candidate for the chief minister’s post. Political observers believe his recent electoral victory over Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur has significantly strengthened his position within the party. Earlier, in the 2021 assembly elections, Suvendu Adhikari had also defeated Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram, further boosting his political stature.

While a few other senior BJP leaders are also being discussed internally, Suvendu Adhikari currently appears to have the strongest support. Preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are reportedly almost complete.

Sources indicate that the oath-taking ceremony may take place on May 9 at Kolkata’s historic Brigade Parade Ground at around 11 AM. The event coincides with the birth anniversary celebrations of Rabindranath Tagore.

Several top BJP leaders, including Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Union ministers, and chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, are expected to attend the ceremony.
