Kannauj: Samajwadi Party chief and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh (Akhilesh ) Yadav will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Kannauj seat. This has been approved by the party. Many kinds of speculations were being made regarding this seat. It was also told that they will also file nomination on 25th. Earlier, Akhilesh’s nephew Tej Pratap Yadav was given ticket from Kannauj seat. His name was also formally announced, but now finally it has been decided by the Samajwadi Party that only Akhilesh Yadav will contest on this seat.
In fact, this has been confirmed by party sources. Earlier, SP had announced that Akhilesh Yadav will no longer contest from Kannauj in the Lok Sabha elections. His family member and former Mainpuri MP Tej Pratap Yadav was made the candidate on this seat. On Monday, Samajwadi Party had fielded Sanatan Pandey against former MP Tej Pratap Yadav from Kannauj and BJP candidate Neeraj Shekhar from Ballia seat.

Before giving ticket to Tej Pratap Yadav, there were speculations that SP President Akhilesh Yadav would contest from Kannauj seat, but then the name of Tej Pratap Yadav came to the fore. Now once again the name of Akhilesh Yadav has been confirmed. It is known that Tej Pratap Yadav is the grandson of the brother of former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav. He was married to Rajlakshmi, younger daughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. He contested the elections from Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in 2014 and won.
