New Delhi: Facebook has changed the name of the company as part of the rebranding plan. Facebook will now be known as Meta. The name was suggested by Facebook’s former Civic Integrity Chief, Samidh Chakraborty. meta.com currently redirects to meta.org, a biomedical research discovery tool developed under the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
The rebranding is being done as part of the plan to present Facebook as a metaverse company. Facebook is about to invest $10 billion this year for its virtual world Metaverse. This will be a new phase of a new virtual experience using technologies like Facebook’s Virtual and Augment Realty. The company will spend billions of dollars on its Facebook Realty Labs, which the Metaverse division has tasked with creating AR and VR hardware, software and content.
Facebook first revealed its plans last month to create its own Metaverse. The term metaverse is used to describe virtual, interactive spaces in the digital world. The metaverse is a virtual world where a person is not physically present. Virtual Realty Key is used for this.
Facebook earlier this month announced hiring 10,000 people to help build the social network’s metaverse. In this new metaverse, Facebook is going to start a new chapter of a new virtual experience by using virtual and augmented reality.
