Washington. Media business tycoon and Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch is soon going to marry for the fifth time at the age of 92. Just seven months after reaching a divorce settlement with his ex-wife, Jerry Hall, Murdoch got engaged to his girlfriend, Ann Leslie Smith, on Friday.
The News Corp president proposed to his bride-to-be with an Escher-cut diamond solitaire on March 17 in New York City. The New York Post quoted Murdoch as saying, ‘I was very nervous. I was afraid of falling in love – but I knew it would be my last. It would be better. I’m happy.’
66-year-old Ann Leslie Smith has been a chaplain in the San Francisco Police Department. Her late husband Chester Smith was a singer, radio and television executive. Smith told the newspaper that she has been a widow for 14 years. Like Rupert, her husband was also a businessman. He worked for local papers, helped promote radio and TV stations, and Univision. He further said that getting close to 70 means being in the last half. He waited for the right time. Friends are happy for them.
Reports have claimed that the couple met in September and made their relationship official on Christmas. They were spotted together on a holiday and were also reportedly hosted by British billionaire and JCB chairman Anthony Bamford. Let us tell you that this will be Murdoch’s fifth marriage and he was earlier married to Jerry Hall, Wendy Murdoch, Anna Murdoch Mann and Patricia Booker.
