New Delhi. The decision will be taken today on whether the Indian cricket team will tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup or not. Asia Cup 2023 is to be held in Pakistan this year. But India has already made its stand clear that it will not visit Pakistan. Jai Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, is in Bahrain to attend an emergency meeting of the Asian Cricket Council. The meeting, called at the request of PCB chairman Najam Sethi, will decide the fate of Pakistan’s Asia Cup hosting rights.
If BCCI sources are to be believed then there is no or absolutely no chance of Pakistan hosting the Asia Cup in September. The tournament is expected to be held either in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will retain the hosting rights, or Sri Lanka could be another option.
‘No approval from the government to go to Pakistan’
A BCCI source said, “Jay Shah is currently in Bahrain for the ACC meeting. BCCI will not change its stand. We will not go to Pakistan because we have not got the approval from the government. It is understandable that the recent Peshawar bomb blast has raised security concerns about the resumption of the cricket tournament in Pakistan.
