Dehradun: Another company of SDRF, which has played a leading role in disaster relief and rescue operations in Uttarakhand, will soon come into existence. Here the personnel who completed seven years in the force are now going to return to the police. After the Kedarnath disaster of 2013, the need was felt in the state to constitute a specialist force for rescue and relief operations during the disaster.
In this sequence, the force was formed in 2014. At present, about four and a half hundred jawans and more than one hundred para medical staff are deployed in the force. The special thing is that the jawans in the force come on deputation from Uttarakhand Police, which is a maximum of seven years. Due to this, the soldiers of the initial batch of the force are now going back to the police after completing their seven-year tenure.
Along with this, the government has also given permission to form an additional company of the force. At present, there are SDRF outposts at 29 places in the state. Where the jawans are alert with the equipment all the time. SDRF has proved its expertise in High Altitude Rescue in these nine years of journey. Teams have successfully scaled many peaks including Mount Everest.
