Judge turned rapist

Jammu: A judge who punished others for their crimes has himself been convicted in a rape and cheating case. A fast track court in Jammu and Kashmir has found the judge guilty in its decision. A sub-judge in Jammu was accused of raping and cheating a woman who sought legal help from him in 2018. The sub-judge was suspended following the allegation.
The convicted sub-judge has been identified as Rakesh Kumar Abrol. The presiding officer of Fast Track Court, Jammu, Khaleel Choudhary, in his judgment said that the conclusion that emerges from the discussion is that all the evidence on record points towards the guilt of the accused.

The court in its judgment said that the evidence presented shows the allegations to be true. Therefore the accused is convicted for the offenses under section 420 and 376(2)(k) RPC. However, the court has not yet announced the sentence. The sentence will be heard in the court on Saturday. The court further said that the influential person should be more responsible and sensitive towards the general public keeping in view his reach, influence and authority. They are expected to know and understand the meaning of authority and law with experience and knowledge.

According to the prosecution, the victim woman and the judge, a resident of Ramban, met when she was fighting a case. Being a judicial officer, Abrol promised legal help and asked him to help with household chores. After this the woman started working at the judge’s house. The judge also promised the woman to give better education to her daughter. The accused had also promised him a salary of Rs 5000 per month. Meanwhile, he raped the woman by engaging her in his talk.
