‘Price Tag’ for Rape Victim’s Pain?

Delhi: The Delhi High Court says that no amount of compensation can ease the pain of a rape victim. Not only this, the Court has directed that the authorities will have to pay 25 per cent of the maximum amount as interim compensation within 60 days of filing the charge sheet against the accused,
Justice Jasmeet Singh directed that the authorities will have to pay 25 per cent of the maximum amount as interim compensation within 60 days of filing the charge sheet against the accused and the special court hearing the case will decide the compensation suit.

The court took note that the Delhi Victims Compensation Scheme provides for maximum and minimum compensation amount. However, the court said that the maximum compensation amount should not be fixed under the law or scheme.
