Fourth visit by an American politician to Taiwan this month

Taipei: US Senator Marsha Blackburn arrived in Taipei late on Thursday, amid rising tensions over the Taiwan issue with China. This is the fourth visit by an American politician this month. Beijing is deeply stunned by the increasing interference of the US on this issue. Earlier, after US Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, China had warned Taiwan of military consequences and started a military drill.

Tensions between China and the United States have reached their highest level in decades since the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. According to Taiwan’s foreign ministry, Republican lawmaker Blackburn landed at Songshan Airport in Taipei on a US government plane late last night. She tweeted that, ‘I have arrived in Taiwan to let Beijing send a message, we cannot be bullied. The United States is committed to the protection of freedoms around the world and will not tolerate attempts to undermine our nation and allies.

Grateful for America’s resolve towards us – Taiwan

In another statement, Blackburn said, “Looking forward to meeting with leaders in Taipei to advance and strengthen our partnership.” Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said that, ‘We are grateful that the people of the US Congress once again expressed their steadfast support and commitment to Taiwan. That too at a time when tensions with China are increasing.

In fact, Beijing has been claiming to claim the self-governing democratic island of Taiwan as part of its territory and has spoken of annexing it by force one day if needed. China said it condemns any diplomatic action that legitimizes Taiwan and will react strongly to visits by Western officials and politicians. US Speaker Nancy Pelosi was the key US official to visit Taiwan after decades.
