World’s longest tunnel, know special things

New Delhi. The excavation of the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh has been completed amid India-China tensions over the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh. On Thursday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh pressed the button to open the main tube through the blast. This tunnel is very important for the Indian Army. Through this tunnel, it will be easy for the Indian Army to reach the LAC in all weather and deliver essential goods. In addition, this tunnel will also save time. On completion of the tunnel work, this more than 1.5 km long tunnel will be one of the longest double lane road tunnel in the world at an altitude of 13,000 feet. Even snowfall will not have any effect on this tunnel, built with modern technology.

On this special occasion, Rajnath Singh said that the Cell Tunnel of Arunachal Pradesh will play an important role in strengthening the national security and ensuring the socio-economic development of the region. Rajnath Singh said that this state-of-the-art tunnel will prove to be a lifeline not only for Tawang but for the entire state.

This tunnel passes through Sela Pass and there is a possibility that after its construction, the distance from Tawang to China border will be reduced by 10 km.

It is situated on the border between Tawang and West Kameng districts of Arunachal Pradesh. Two tunnels are being built in this project. Tunnel 1 is about 980 meters long, while Tunnel No. 2, which is a twin tube tunnel, has a length of about 1555 meters.
With the help of this tunnel, the travel time between the Army’s 4 Corps Headquarters at Tezpur in Assam and Tawang will be cut by about one hour.
– Army officials say that the construction work of this tunnel is expected to be completed by June 2022. – After the construction of this tunnel, the 171 km route of National Highway 13 between Bomdila and Tawang will be used in all-weather would be able to. Which will help only in other essential traffic including tourists.

In 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation of this project. Its cost will be around Rs 687 crore. During the Indo-China war of 1962, the Chinese invasion of India had accelerated and they dominated us only when the PLA was completely spread in Sela. But this tunnel will not only strengthen the security, but with the help of this, the people of far-flung areas of western Arunachal will also get ease in the movement.
