Continuous improvement in income tax portal

New Delhi. Salil Parekh, MD and CEO of country’s leading software services company Infosys, which has faced criticism due to technical flaws in the new portal for income tax returns, said on Wednesday that the new portal developed by his company is continuously improving. He said that 1.9 crore returns have been filed on it.

He further said that the concerns of the taxpayers are being addressed continuously. After announcing the company’s results for the second quarter, Parekh said, “We are seeing continuous improvement in the income tax system. Till yesterday we had over 1.9 crore returns which have been filed using the new system. Today Income Tax Return Form 1 to 7 is all working. Most of the statutory forms are available on the system.

However, he did not specify when these technical glitches would be completely resolved and all the facilities on the portal would be available to tax return filers. Parekh said that 38 million users have completed various transactions and 2-3 lakh returns are being filed every day.

Infosys was awarded the contract in 2019 to develop the next generation income tax filing system. The objective behind this was to reduce the return scrutiny time from 63 days to one day and speed up the refund process.

The new income tax portal www.incometax.gov.in (www.incometax.gov.in) was launched with great enthusiasm on 7th June. Infosys has prepared this new website.
