‘India is the mother of democracy’: PM Modi to Indian community in Munich

Munich. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held a meeting with Argentine President Alberto Fernandez on the sidelines of the G-7 summit and reviewed bilateral ties. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed various issues such as trade and investment, defense cooperation, agriculture, climate action and food security. This was the first bilateral meeting between the two leaders. The two leaders reviewed progress in implementing the bilateral Strategic Partnership established in 2019. Modi arrived here on Sunday on a two-day visit to Germany to attend the G-7 summit. He will discuss issues such as energy, food security, counter-terrorism, environment and democracy with the leaders of the powerful grouping and its allies.

PM Narendra Modi tweeted that, ‘India-Argentina friendly relations were reviewed during a fruitful meeting with President Alberto Fernandez in Munich. Our people will benefit greatly from the stronger cooperation between our countries. The two leaders discussed ways to deepen commercial and cultural ties between India and Argentina.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a tweet that Prime Minister Modi met Argentine President Alberto Fernandez, which was their first bilateral meeting. Various issues like trade and investment, climate action, South-South cooperation, traditional medicine, agriculture were discussed in this. The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that trade and investment, South-South cooperation, especially in the pharmaceutical sector, climate action, renewable energy, nuclear medicine, electric mobility, defense cooperation, agriculture and food security, traditional medicine, cultural cooperation, Along with this, various issues including coordination in international bodies were discussed.

Apart from India, Germany, the host of the G-7 summit, has invited Argentina, Indonesia, Senegal and South Africa as guests to recognize global democracies as their partners. India-Argentina ties were elevated to the level of strategic partnership in 2019. The multifaceted relationship between the two countries has strengthened over the years and includes political, economic, cultural and scientific and technical cooperation. About 2,600 people of Indian origin live in Argentina, including professionals working with Indian companies and multinational corporations. PM Modi will visit United Arab Emirates from Germany on 28 June.
