New Delhi: Britain has withdrawn its ‘discriminatory policy’ of not recognizing the Kovidshield vaccine developed by Astragenica and Serum Institute of India in India. Now Indian citizens going to Britain, who have got both doses of Kovishield, will not have to be quarantined.
Let us tell you, recently Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla criticized Britain’s discriminatory policy regarding Kovishield. India had advised equal treatment by calling the policy of Britain wrong. The question was raised from India’s side that 5 million vaccine doses were provided to the UK of Covishield, which were used by their health system NHS. Still, it is not right at all to force people coming from India to stay in quarantine for 10 days.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had also demanded an ‘expedited resolution’ of the COVID-19 related quarantine issue during his meeting with Britain’s newly-appointed Foreign Minister Elizabeth Truss. Jaishankar had sharply criticized Britain’s new travel restrictions related to Kovid-19. Recently, the UK announced new rules, saying that it will be assumed that people who have taken both doses of Covishield have not been vaccinated and will have to stay in Quarantine for 10 days.
When Britain was surrounded on this whole issue, it was only after this was told by the British High Commissioner that the idea of how to certify the vaccine certificate of Kovishield is going on. This rule of Britain was also heavily criticized on Indian social media. People called it a ‘strange’ and ‘discriminatory’ rule.
