Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Monday directed the state government to take action against those who set up flag poles illegally, irrespective of their affiliation, saying that no one, even those in power, are above the law. Justice Devan Ramachandran said, “It doesn’t matter how big a person you are, the law is above you.” Justice said those in power, who understand the laws and the government, should be held more accountable.
The court’s remarks came after it found violation by the ruling party in the state of its order not to put up flag poles illegally any more in Kerala. Justice Ramachandran asked the government, ‘I am not concerned with the color of the flag, here it is red. This is a blatant violation. We can understand that if common people or those who are not in power or those in opposition do this, but should those in power do this.’
Justice Ramachandran also said that there have been attempts by some to associate him with a particular party and call him a ‘Sanghi’, but neither he nor the High Court can be swayed by such attempts. The court was hearing cases related to encroachment of public land.
