Three Services Work Together

RAHAT MITRA brought together personnel from the Army, Navy and Air Force of both nations. The exercise gave them an opportunity to exchange professional experience and practise joint response procedures.

The participating forces focused on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. Such coordination can prove important during floods, cyclones, earthquakes and other emergencies.

Indian Army teams demonstrated specialised disaster response capabilities. These included flood relief columns and engineer task forces.

Personnel also showcased rescue operations, dewatering techniques and bridge-laying activities. These skills can help restore connectivity and assist communities after major disasters.

Strengthening Regional Disaster Response

India and Myanmar share a long-standing relationship and common regional interests. Both countries also face natural disaster risks, including floods and cyclones.

Joint training can help their armed forces respond more effectively during emergencies. It can also improve communication between teams operating across different services.

The exercise provided a platform for both sides to share lessons and improve interoperability. This can support faster and more coordinated relief operations.

India’s Neighbourhood First Policy

The Ministry of Defence linked RAHAT MITRA with India’s Neighbourhood First policy. It also highlighted the MAHASAGAR vision, which focuses on mutual and holistic advancement for security and growth across regions.

The exercise marks another step in India-Myanmar defence cooperation. It also reflects the role of military partnerships beyond conventional security operations.

Humanitarian assistance remains an important area of regional cooperation. Through joint exercises, both countries can strengthen their ability to support affected communities during crises.
