Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has rejected the regular bail petition of Joginder Singh, also known as Joga, an accused in the murder case of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.
The court declined to grant him relief after considering the nature of the allegations, his alleged involvement in the conspiracy and his criminal background. The order was passed by Justice Jasjit Singh Bedi.
According to the prosecution, Joga is alleged to have played an important role in the conspiracy surrounding the murder. Investigators have accused him of providing shelter and logistical support to individuals allegedly involved in the case.
Allegations of Providing Shelter to Shooters
The case is linked to an FIR registered at Mansa City-1 police station on May 29, 2022, following a complaint connected to Moosewala’s family.
During the hearing, the state opposed Joga’s bail plea and described the allegations against him as serious. The prosecution alleged that he had provided accommodation and a safe place to stay to several accused before the crime.
He has also been accused of allegedly arranging a weapon for another co-accused, according to the prosecution’s submissions before the court.
The investigation includes allegations under provisions related to murder, attempted murder, criminal conspiracy and other applicable laws.
Court Takes Serious View of Alleged Role
While examining the material placed before it, the High Court reportedly took note of the allegations concerning Joga’s role in the larger conspiracy.
The court considered the accusations of providing shelter to alleged shooters and facilitating access to weapons as serious factors while deciding the bail application.
It also took into account the prosecution’s claim that the accused remained unavailable to investigating authorities for a period after his name surfaced in connection with the case.
Criminal Background Considered
The state also informed the court about Joga’s alleged criminal history. According to the prosecution, multiple criminal cases have been registered against him in different police stations.
These cases reportedly include allegations related to serious offences, including attempted murder, robbery, theft, weapons-related offences and other criminal charges.
Joga was arrested in connection with the Sidhu Moosewala murder case in June 2023.
Bail Plea Rejected
The High Court observed that the seriousness of the allegations and the overall circumstances of the case did not support the grant of regular bail at this stage.
The court also considered concerns raised by the prosecution regarding the possibility of the accused absconding, interfering with evidence or influencing witnesses.
After considering the facts presented during the hearing, the Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed Joga’s regular bail petition, leaving him without relief from the court for now.
