Lahore: A tragic incident occurred in Lahore, Pakistan, on Tuesday. At least 14 children  (14 children )  died and 20 others were injured when the roof of a private tuition center—located in a building under construction—collapsed. Police stated that more than 30 children, aged between 7 and 13, were attending classes at the academy in the densely populated Kahna Nau area when the roof suddenly caved in, trapping the children beneath the debris.

Search for those trapped in the debris
Speaking to the media, Lahore’s Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Faisal Kamran said, “So far, the bodies of 14 children have been recovered from the debris. Twenty injured children and a female teacher have been admitted to the hospital. Rescue teams are continuously conducting operations to search for others trapped in the rubble.”

Contractor arrested
Police official Kamran stated, “A portion of the building was under construction, and laborers were working when the roof collapsed. We have arrested the contractor.” Tariq Mahmood, Chief Executive Officer of the Lahore District Education Authority, said that a private tuition center was being run in the building by a local woman. The Edhi Foundation reported that the roof of the academy—operating out of a residential building in the Eidgah locality of Kahna Nau—suddenly collapsed.

Death toll may rise
In a statement, the NGO said, “The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the General Hospital morgue.” The organization also expressed apprehension that the death toll could rise, as some children remain trapped in the debris. The organization stated that the injured have been admitted to the hospital, where their condition is reported to be stable. It added that rescue operations are being carried out swiftly. Edhi Foundation ambulances are deployed at the scene, providing emergency medical assistance.

**CM Maryam Issues Strict Instructions Against Those Responsible**
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the police and district administration to identify those responsible for the incident and initiate criminal proceedings against them. Provincial health officials have declared an emergency at Lahore General Hospital and instructed senior administrative officials, doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff to ensure immediate treatment for the injured.
