Washington: US President Donald Trump ( Trump ) ‘s special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, will hold talks with Iranian negotiators in Doha on Tuesday. These talks follow an exchange of fire between the two sides last week, which has once again cast doubt on the ceasefire agreement reached between them.

US President Donald Trump stated in a post on ‘Truth Social’ on Monday that Iran had requested the meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Doha on Tuesday. However, he did not provide details regarding the meeting’s agenda.
Discussion to focus on signed Memorandum of Understanding
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told the news channel ‘Fox News’ that special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, would travel to Doha this week to discuss the Memorandum of Understanding signed by both parties recently.
Violence will be met with violence: White House
Leavitt said, “As far as we are concerned, we are adhering to the ceasefire. Violence will be met with violence.” She noted that Iran had attacked commercial vessels, and the US had retaliated in accordance with the President’s directives.
Intermittent attacks
Over the past week, the US military conducted airstrikes on Iranian targets. It stated that these strikes were in response to attacks launched by Tehran against vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz—a vital waterway for the transport of one-fifth of the global crude oil supply. Meanwhile, Iran stated that it carried out drone and missile attacks targeting Bahrain and Kuwait on Sunday. A US official told local media that “neither side will take action against the other for the time being, and ships can move freely.”
