Labour Party to get a new leader in September  (Labour )

London: UK Prime Minister and Labour Party leader Keir Starmer has announced his resignation. Starmer made this announcement following mounting pressure from within the Labour  (Labour )  Party. In his address, he spoke emotionally about his wife and children. Acknowledging internal questions regarding his leadership and the party’s future, Starmer said, “I know the question is now being asked: who is the best person to take the Labour Party forward? The party is asking if I am the right person to lead it into the next election. I have heard the views of my party colleagues, and I accept them.”

Decision made with the country’s interests paramount
He added, “Every decision I have taken has been with the aim of putting the country I love first. That is why I am resigning as leader of the Labour Party. I spoke to His Majesty the King this morning to inform him of my decision.”

Will fully support my successor
Starmer continued, “I will ask the Labour National Executive Committee to begin the process of ensuring a new leader is appointed before the next parliamentary session in September. I will give my full support to my successor, knowing they will inherit a strong Britain, enabling the Labour Party to secure a second term. I want to thank all my colleagues for their support.”

Starmer also thanks his wife
Visibly emotional, Starmer thanked his wife, Victoria, for being a pillar of strength and standing by him through both good times and bad. He said, “When I step down from the biggest job in the country, I will devote more of my time to the most important task—being the best husband to my wonderful wife, Vic, and the best father to my lovely children, who are a source of pride and joy to me.”

**Labour Party to get a new leader in September**
Starmer has asked the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee to set a timetable for the leadership election, with nominations opening on July 9. Nominations will close on July 16, before the summer parliamentary recess. If an election takes place, it will ensure that the Labour Party has a new leader by the time Parliament reconvenes in September.
